1- Morality-Morality can be a body of standards or principles derived from a code of conduct from a particular philosophy, religion or culture, or it can derive from a standard that a person believes should be universal. Morality may also be specifically synonymous with “goodness” or “rightness”.
b) Spirituality- it includes a sense of connection to something bigger than ourselves, and it typically involves a search for meaning in life. As such, it is a universal human experience—something that touches us all.
c) Martyr- A martyr is someone who suffers persecution and death for advocating, renouncing, refusing to renounce, or refusing to advocate a belief or cause as demanded by an external party.
2- The character of Simon in Lord of the flies is often viewed or figured as Jesus Christ in the novel. In chapter 3 Simon helped the littluns to pick fruits from the trees, it shows his kind, helping and caring nature. Often in the novel Simon’s ideas were disregarded Many of the prophecies revealed by Jesus were also disregarded and not accepted by everyone. This depicts that both Simon and Jesus were misunderstood by the people around them. In chapter 9 Simon and Jesus were both challenged by evil but overcame it. Although, the Lord of the Flies would reveal to Simon that it is the evil within the boys. Due to his attempt to warn and save the others, he was savagely beaten and killed. His personal sacrifice, his safety, was for greater good, the ultimate sanity of the tribe.

3-People like Simon who took extraordinary care for people around him and always supported everyone are not remembered for their piety but for their courageous act. I interpret understood Simon to be closer to God than others; they were eventually thought to have powers of intercession. Petition through prayer to them was thought to have particular potency. Some of the saintly qualities are courage, selflessness, care of others, and triumph over adversity.
4-The character of Simon in William Golding’s Lord of the Flies has often been viewed as the Christ figure of the novel. If you were to examine the actions of both Simon and Jesus, you would find a number of incidents that parallel each other. One of the first things that Simon does that depicts a Christ-like action, is found in chapter 3 when he helps the littluns get fruit, Simon’s encounter with the Lord of the Flies in chapter nine can be seen as a parallel to Jesus’ confrontation with Satan in the desert. Simon and Jesus were both challenged by evil but overcame it. Although, the Lord of the Flies would reveal to Simon that it is the evil within the boys.
In chapter 4, Piggy is left hungry as Jack refuses to give him meat. Simon sees this wrong and responds by giving Piggy some meat, “Simon, sitting between the twins and Piggy, wiped his mouth and shoved his piece of meat over the rocks to Piggy.” (Page 78) Simon knowing Piggy’s need to eat shoves the meat in his face.
In chapter 6, Simon expresses his beliefs when he thinks about the beast, “However Simon thought of the beast, there rose before his inward sight the picture of a human at once heroic and sick.” (Page 112). This shows Simon’s spirituality. He is saying how humans have kindness in them , but also a beast that draw them to evil. Here, he is also saying how the beast is actually “human.”
5- It has been mentioned several times in class Golding makes several references to the Bible in his book. If we were to look at the book biblically, Simon would definitely symbolize saints based on his Christ-like actions and behavior. Simon in the larger allegory represents the good purity in humans. He also represents spirituality. Simon shows a lot of selfless behavior in the story. He always stands up for Piggy when he believes that Jack is being unjust with his actions. He is also the only boy that is able to stop and just admire nature. He see’s the beauty that they are surrounded by. Furthermore, he was the only boy that helped Ralph with building the huts. This even caused Jack to call Simon “odd” as Simon is willing to do things not because he wants to, but because he knows that it will help the larger group. His spirituality is also shown when he sits alone just to admire the jungle. He is also the one to see the strange bushes as lights, which represents religion. Later on in the story, Simon is told by the Lord of the Flies that there is no hope. To Simon, a higher power warns him about the increasing savagery happening with the boys and he is warned about his safety. This greatly symbolizes religion and spirituality in the greater allegory. We delve deeper into Simon’s spiritual understanding as he does not fear the beast. Instead, he thinks that the beast is actually in each of the boys. While Jack represents savage anarchy, Ralph represents civilized democracy, and Piggy symbolized rational intellect, Simon is an incarnation of goodness and saintliness.
